What has been your experience with inmates faking illness?

In light of correctional healthcare columnist Lorry Schoenly's latest article on CorrectionsOne.com, "How to spot inmates' invented illnesses", we're asking other correctional professionals to tell their experiences with inmates faking illness. What's you story?

You ain't got the time to listen to all my stories of Inmates faking medical issues.

The last one was an ICE detainee.....Bosnian who evalvated his blood pressure by heavy excercise ....Doc's at the ER siad he was one of the healthiest individuals they;d seen.
I see it everyday, when the new inmates come in on Fri, holidays when they get bored, there is a never ending parade of inmates feigning illness.
God bless the sternum rub. I find it to be the best way to tell if someone is faking unconsciousness. (and some of the F.O.S. imnate's reactions are priceless).
Not so much faking but diverting their meds more specifically there METHADONE. they would put a half a ping pong ball in their mouth and put meth into it or "bring it back up" and sell it.
one lady that got booked in said she was 10months prego and she was going into labor yeah she was off the wall
Unfortunately, I work in a small facility with no full time medical staff, So every time we get one of these jackasses having a "seizure" or "serious issue" we have to call medical aid from the Fire Dept. It's a pain and a waste of resources.

I think in the 10 years I have been a CO, I have only seen 2 REAL seizures.
I like to think I can spot someone who is genuinely sick as opposed to someone who is pulling a fast one. I constantly am ridiculed for calling medical  for
inmates who claim to be sick. Whether or not their sick, I have a responsibility to report it. I cannot not call and take responsibility if the inmate might actually be sick.
Officer Robert Miller (USP Lewisburg) got murdered in 1987 at a outside hospital. What got the inmate out of the institution? How about a small piece of copper in his hair that showed up as a skull fracture on a x-ray. Ya,!!!

I also had a inmate faking a seizure on me. Thank God, I felt something was not right. He tried to swing on me.

Be careful my friends
We had an inmate that has come to our jail, sentenced a couple of times of petty offenses. However, the first time she came to jail she stated she had MRSA. So we obviously segregated her. The next time she came to jail she again then said she had MRSA. Our nursing staff then decided to actually confirm the case. And guess what? She was lying. It just goes to show hoe scared officers and administrators are getting of infectious diseases

They all have chest pains . They know it will trigger response because of it's nature to be related with Cardiac problems .
Most Inmate populations do not know how to show the other signs of cardiac troubles which I will not go into on this page.
I saw an Inmate that was facking a seizure. This Inmate was a constant probleme. The sergant in the facility told the Inmate to get up.The Inmate smiled, and opened his eyes.My sergant chewed him out big time. The sergant was a 13 year veteran at the time.I think he has seen some good fakers.
